About me

About Me

I’m Jordy Bastiaansen, a freelance technician and project leader working in the AV installation and event industry.

My work sits at the intersection of technology, creativity, and precision — where complex systems come together behind the scenes to create experiences that feel effortless in front of the audience.

Because when everything works the way it should, people don’t notice the technology.
They remember the moment.

The Story

Where It Started

My fascination with technology started in a small theatre at my high school.

While others were drawn to the stage, I was far more interested in what was happening behind the scenes — the lighting, the sound, and the technical setups that made a performance come alive.

It felt like discovering a hidden world that not many people pay attention to, but one that — in my opinion — deserves to be noticed when it’s done right.

That curiosity led me to study Stage and Event Technology in Bergen op Zoom, where my passion quickly turned into a profession.

From Productions to Installations

During my internship , I stepped straight into the world of professional productions as an AV technician, and soon started taking on responsibilities as a project manager.

At the same time, a AV installation company within the organization introduced me to the world of AV installations — working on conference environments, council chambers, demo spaces, and integrated control systems.

It was here that I learned something that still guides my work today:

When technology is done right, it becomes invisible.
It simply works.

Freelance

In 2012, while still studying, I started working as a freelance technician.

After graduating, I joined a special effects company, where I moved into the special effects and pyrotechnics side of the event industry as a project leader and SFX/Pyro technician.

Over time, freelance projects in events, installations, and technical productions kept growing, and it became clear that working independently allowed me to combine the parts of this industry I enjoy the most.

Today I work on projects across the Netherlands and internationally, either as a technician on site or as a project manager coordinating complex technical setups.

What Keeps Me Going

Why I Do This

What still drives me today is the same thing that pulled me into that school theatre years ago:

That moment when everything comes together.

The technology.
The creativity.
The Experience.

Whether it’s a live event or a permanent installation, the goal is the same: making sure everything works exactly the way it should.

Because in the end, great technology isn’t about the equipment.

It’s about creating experiences — and systems — that simply work.
